Safety House
The Safety House was received at the end of June 2006. It is financed by a FEMA Fire Prevention Grant, and is intended for use by all fire departments throughout Brunswick County.
Safety House
The Safety House, manufactured by Scotty, is a 35-foot trailer with vinyl siding on the exterior resembling a house. The exterior is equipped with an awning and a TV/DVD/VCR system so that information can be presented to those waiting outside. Inside there are two rooms and the control room. The larger room is a kitchen/living room with bleachers at one end. This room also contains a TV/DVD/VCR system for presenting information. The other room is a bedroom area with a second exterior door. The safety house is equipped with a hurricane simulation package, as well as standard fire safety training aids such as a heatable door and a smoke generator.
The primary focus of the project is to educate children about fire safety and hurricane survival, but the Safety House is also an excellent way to inform newcomers to this coastal region, particularly seniors, about hurricane preparedness and survival. We also believe that it would be valuable to take the safety house to some of the annual festivals that are held in the county.
