Operation Smoke Alarm
Calabash Fire Department announces Operation Smoke Alarm, a new public safety fire prevention program funded by a Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation Community Grant.
Operation Smoke Alarm's objective is to make certain that every home in the Calabash Fire District has a working smoke alarm. Using funds from the BEMC grant, the Department has purchased a supply of battery operated smoke detectors and batteries with the cooperation of Lowes Home Improvement Company in Shallotte.
"Newer homes more than likely have the alarms already installed," said Fire Chief Karl Bennett, "but we're concerned about the older homes and want to make sure that every home in our jurisdiction has a working smoke alarm. We know that these units can save lives in the event of a fire."
If you need a smoke alarm but can't afford to buy one, call the Calabash Fire Department at 910-579-2355 to make arrangements to get an alarm. Personnel from the Department will even install the smoke alarms if residents need help with this task.
The smoke alarms and batteries will be available as long as supplies last.
The Calabash Fire District includes the towns of Calabash and Carolina Shores and the unincorporated area from Thomasboro Road to the state line, as well as the area north of Highway 17 from Brunswick Plantation to the state line out Ash-Little River Road to Etheridge Road.
