Fire Corps Meeting Notes

Fire Corps Update - 6/11/07

Greetings one and all.  We held a meeting on June 11, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Brunswick House.

Open House

Fire prevention week is October 7 through October 13.  We have decided to have an open house onOctober 6, 2007 (Saturday).  The place is still up in the air a bit and I will let you know as soon as it is finalized.  The Chief has agreed to provide a fire fighter to serve on a committee with fire corps members to plan the event.  Those volunteering for the committee are Ann Wiltbank, Sally Lombardo, Mary Sue Wahl, and Pam Bruno.  Please give them your support if called upon.  The theme for this years fire prevention week is "Practice Your Escape Plan."

Fourth of July Parade on Brunswick Plantation

Jim Bruno has been recruited to drive a fire truck in the 4th of July parade.  He may recruit others to drive more than one truck, we won't know yet.  Also, some of the Fire Corps members asked if we could "march" in the parade.  After some discussion, it was decided that we would "walk" in the parade.  The uniform would be white shorts, blue shirts with logo, and Fire Corps baseball cap.  We will have a banner to carry (Arlene will come up with), flags to carry (Sally will get them), and candy to through to the crowd (Mary Sue will obtain the candy).  The parade starts at 10:00 AM but staging starts at 9:30 AM  in the vicinity of 1138 N. Middleton Dr. NW (home of Vince and Linda Juric).  The parade is scheduled to make the loop down N. Middleton, left on Stanton Hall Drive, left on Beauvoir where the reviewing stand will be at 955 Beauvoir Drive, and end at the corner of N. Middleton Drive and Beauvoir Drive.  It should take about 30 minutes to an hour.  Any member wishing to join us should be at the staging area by 9:30 AM on July 4th.  This is the first annual parade on Brunswick Plantation, let's help make it successful.

Training Dinner

Monday, June 18, 2007 will be the next training dinner for us to prepare.  The menu is scheduled to be Reuben sandwiches, chips, and possibly pound cake with cool whip.  Sally, Mary Sue, and Arlene are planning to cook the briskets left from March.  We will need help at the firehouse to prepare the sandwiches and serve them.  If you can help, please let me know and be at the fire house at 6:00 PM.  We will begin serving at 6:30 PM.

Safety House

The Safety House is scheduled for June 16 (Saturday) at West Brunswick High School for the Brunswick Beacon Health Expo.  Scheduled to help are Hanna Philipp, Arlene Acton, Sally Lombardo, and Sue Sadlon.  Some are scheduled for part of the day only.  Judi Ciriolia was originally scheduled but has a foot problem that will not allow her to participate.  If you are willing to help, please let Hanna know at Hanna Philipp (hphilipp@calabash-nc.net).  All help is welcome.

On July 3, the Safety House is scheduled for the Hickmans Crossroads Library from 11:00 AM to Noon. The program is scheduled for 4 to 6 year old kids.  Sally Lombardo, Hanna Philipp, and Arlene Acton are scheduled to volunteer for this event.  Again, if you can help out, it will be greatly appreciated.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled for August 13 at 2:00 PM at the Brunswick House.

Arlene announced at the meeting that Chief Bennett's mother passed away this past week.  She is sending a sympathy card from the Fire Corps and had members left at the Brunswick House sign it.  Other members will be included as part of the entire Fire Corps.  Our condolences go out to the Chief and his family.   If I have left anything out of the notes that was discussed, please let me know.  We also wish Judi a speedy recovery with her foot problem.

The meeting adjourned around 3:00 PM.
